چکیده

The reassembly of fragments to reconstruct images and objects is a problem often encountered in several applications, ranging from archeology to medicine. In this paper we present a novel method for reassembling two 2D fragments. The proposed method is based on the information extracted from the outlines and from the color contents of the fragments, without relying on any knowledge of the final image. The techniques illustrated in this paper constitute the core of a more general method for reassembling n fragments we are developing. However, here we concentrate mainly on the description of the algorithms for matching two fragments and on their experimental analysis and validation.

Reassembling 3d Thin Fragments of Unknown Geometry in Cultural Heritage

Many fragile antiques had already been broken upon being discovered at archaeology sites. The fragments of these objects cannot be effectively interpreted and studied unless they are successfully reassembled. However, there still exists many problems in the reassembly procedure in existing methods, such as the numerical instabilities of curvature and torsion based methods, the limitation of geo...

Fast System Matrix Calculation in CT Iterative Reconstruction

Introduction: Iterative reconstruction techniques provide better image quality and have the potential for reconstructions with lower imaging dose than classical methods in computed tomography (CT). However, the computational speed is major concern for these iterative techniques. The system matrix calculation during the forward- and back projection is one of the most time- cons...

Reconstruction of Three-Dimensional Objects through Matching of Their Parts

The problem of reassembling an object from its parts or fragments has never been addressed with a unified computational approach, which depends on the pure geometric form of the parts and not application-specific features. We propose a method for the automatic reconstruction of a model based on the geometry of its parts, which may be computergenerated models or range-scanned models. The matchin...

Efficient Solution to the 3D Problem of Automatic Wall Paintings Reassembly

This paper, introduces a new approach for the automated reconstructionreassembly of fragmented objects having one surface near to plane, on the basis of the 3D representation of their constituent fragments. The whole process starts by 3D scanning of the available fragments. The obtained representations are properly processed so that they can be tested for possible matches. Next, four novel crit...

Block-Based Compressive Sensing Using Soft Thresholding of Adaptive Transform Coefficients

Compressive sampling (CS) is a new technique for simultaneous sampling and compression of signals in which the sampling rate can be very small under certain conditions. Due to the limited number of samples, image reconstruction based on CS samples is a challenging task. Most of the existing CS image reconstruction methods have a high computational complexity as they are applied on the entire im...
